Celebrating National Manufacturing Day & Month
Each October, the Washington County Chamber’s School to Career program joins communities across the country in celebrating National Manufacturing Day and Month. This annual celebration is more than just a recognition of manufacturing, it is an opportunity to open doors for students, connect education with industry, and showcase the strength of our region’s economy.
Manufacturing is thriving in Washington County, Oregon.
Local companies—from high-tech factories to chip makers—are building the future of tools, products, and skilled jobs. These industries help grow our economy, offer great-paying careers, and show off the creativity and talent of the people who live and work here.
Through our School to Career program, we team up with local manufacturers to give students a behind-the-scenes look at modern manufacturing.
Students get to:
-
Tour real facilities
-
Meet industry professionals
-
Explore cutting-edge tools and technologies
By linking classroom lessons to real-world careers, these experiences motivate students to explore high-demand industries and imagine their future in them.
Ever since middle school I’ve been interested in computers and more recently Computer Science and Programming. This event showed me how semiconductors are made and how they are used in chips. Learning how the machines function to produce different products was fascinating!
I never really considered manufacturing to be a career pathway for me, I didn’t know what a job in the pathway would look like. To me it sounds like you’re in a factory watching machines mass-produce. But when I witnessed it, I realized it’s nothing like that, it actually changed my opinion on it a lot!
